Adroegen

I will now begin introducing my main characters individually, and the sensible one to begin with would be Adroegen. There is much that I could say about him and could speak on and on if I am not careful. At the time the story begins, he is a young traveler at twenty-two years of age, who spends much time drifting about, unsure of what precisely he is searching for.

The best place I think to begin is by telling you that, biographically speaking, Adroegen was born in the Northern Fold of the kingdom of Gundmar, which is just south of Mûrondûn, Vyroun’s kingdom. During that time, Vyroun, an evil lord, had been waging war upon the kingdoms in the north and had brought death upon many.

While all in the north had suffered at the hands of Vyroun and his armies, perhaps none had suffered more than Adroegen. He lost his father when he was a young child. Then Adroegen lost his uncle next. A little after, he lost his cousin, and then his brother. Then Adroegen and his mother were taken prisoner and held in the dungeons of Vyroun’s kingdom, where he watched his mother be fed to wolves, in the most tormenting memory Adroegen had ever had. He was rescued, but Adroegen by then was the only remaining member of his kin, as all others had perished.

The story contains some religious themes and allegories, dealing in particular with whether there is a god or not, and if a higher power is watching over everyone. Within the world that my story takes place, there is a creator of the world named Enilundar, who is said to watch over and love all. Adroegen has been told this before, however after losing all in his kin one by one, he is unsure of whether there really is a higher power watching over him or not. He has heard of a legend of a warrior named Buludin, one of the five Vistivar, Enilundar’s highest servants, wielding the earth’s greatest sword, and how his heir could take that sword and gain all of Buludin’s power and face Vyroun. However, as Vyroun waged war in Adroegen’s childhood, he saw no such warrior come forth, nor the sword surface, and so he finds the tale to be rubbish. No higher power had ever stepped in to end Adroegen’s torment, and so he has come to despise such beliefs in any kind of greater power.

Adroegen, in result, always feels alone and forsaken, no matter where he goes. After Vyroun strangely disappeared, Adroegen ventured about aimlessly and among his discoveries, he finds a hidden village at one point, where he meets friends who in time he will find to be his new kin. However, one night when Adroegen visits them, he finds that the goblin chief, one of Vyroun’s servants and who played a great part in killing all in Adroegen’s kin, had tracked him, and a pack of goblins raze the village and kill all there except for Adroegen and his friends. Adroegen struggles with his desires slay the goblin chief and avenge his old kin that was taken from him one by one, while at the same time trying to lead his friends, who in time become his new kin, to safety.

The story for Adroegen will be one of someone rediscovering their faith after losing it. Over this venture, as Adroegen leads his friends away from danger, he is met with this question of whether a greater power might be with and watching over him and his friends. Now, I of course cannot say what will happen in the story, both for this book and beyond. I will tell you, however, that during the first adventure for these characters, while the plot for the first book will be one of running from a pack of goblins as well as other obstacles, there will be an overarching story for the leader of the company, Adroegen, where he will wonder whether this Enilundar is really real or not, and if this greater power really is at his side. This will be a theme for both this book as well as the second one when it is finished.

I think that I best stop there. The next character for me to speak about will be Caitren, a character that I like quite a bit, though writing her presented some difficulties in the first book. That, however, I will go into during the next posting.
