The Drifters’ Road Characters: Kattalin

Next in my list of characters comes Kattalin, who is twenty years of age when the story begins. She, like Edelbir, Gleowan, and Vaenn, is unsure of who her mother and father are, as well as where she came from. However, Kattalin’s tale of how she came to the hidden village where the tale starts is a little different from the other three characters mentioned.

While Edelbir, Gleowan, and Vaenn were all mysteriously found as infants and taken to the village where they ended up being raised, Kattalin instead was and left there by a man who was a traveler. She is not sure who this man was, whether he might be her father or not, or why he left her there. It is also unknown if this traveler is still out there somewhere, and if Kattalin might one day discover who he is.

I would not say that she is quiet, though perhaps Kattalin might be a little quieter than the others of the company. Among Kattalin’s favorite pastimes would be daydreaming, laying on the ground and watching the clouds pass by, and things of the sort.

One significant trait though about Kattalin is that she has always held a great interest in venturing to the sea. Having grown up in a hidden village many miles from any shores, Kattalin had never looked upon the endless blue waters, and all that she knows about the sea is what she has heard either from folk in the village or from Adroegen whenever he visits. Then when the company is forced to leave home and run from the goblin chief, though they face many trying days and nights, in result of having to leave home there grows a chance that their venture might take them to the sea, and that Kattalin might be able to see beyond the shores and all of the enchantment it holds.

There is a whole lot more that I could say here but cannot, because as of right now, only one book is out, and I of course had best not give away what will happen beyond. I will say though that as the story goes on, beyond one or two books, Kattalin will be strangely drawn to the sea in a way that she cannot explain. She will find herself to be a very natural swimmer, one better than any of the others in the company. I best not give much more detail of what is in store for her, but I will say that Kattalin’s fate will be tied very much to the sea, which she will feel a peculiar connection to as the story goes on. Though precisely why the sea draws her, Kattalin will have to figure out as time goes on. This will be the greatest mystery for her, along with who had left her in the village where the tale begins.

That is where I best stop with Kattalin. The last two remaining characters for me to speak about are Gleowan and Vaenn, and I will actually talk about the two of them in a single post rather then speaking about them individually, because the two of them are quite inseparable, and so I deem it fitting to talk about both of them together. That will be for next time though. Farewell for now.
