The Drifters’ Road Characters: Gleowan and Vaenn

We reach the final two characters in my story. While I went into the others individually, the remaining two characters I will speak of together. The reason for this is that these two characters in the story are quite inseparable. They do almost everything together, and the others in the company do not even try to separate them. Their names are Gleowan and Vaenn, and both are nineteen years of age when the story begins.

Like Edelbir, both Gleowan and Vaenn were found mysteriously as infants and ended up in the village where the first book begins, though the two of them were not found at the same time. But while Edelbir had a jewel in his possession, and Kattalin knew that someone left her there, neither Gleowan or Vaenn have any clue though as to where they might be from.

While Edelbir loves to work, I do not think I would say the same of Gleowan and Vaenn. That is not to say that they loathe working, but their interest lies more in leisure and pastimes. And while Kattalin might enjoy quietly daydreaming, I would say that Gleowan and Vaenn are a little louder. These characters I would describe as being more comical.

Gleowan is one who can be quite boisterous. He very much enjoys smoking a pipe and holds a great love for drinking, with his favorite drink being ale, but in honesty, Gleowan will drink anything. Vaenn often will obsess over how she looks, and might grow cross if her hair is in a mess or if her dress is dirty. While Gleowan enjoys drinking and smoking, Vaenn likes to dance, and she always wants Gleowan to dance with her, but sometimes she is forced to drag him out of his chair to get him to. The two act much like a couple at its most comical, and Edelbir and Kattalin often find amusement in watching the two of them.

When these two characters are forced onto the adventure with the rest of the company, while they too are afraid, I could say that Gleowan, who is normally in a good mood, at least tries to remain in good spirits, difficult as that can be. Vaenn I would say gets scared the most easily of anyone in the company, being frightened by things like spiders and heights, though she does grow less afraid as time goes on and she encounters far greater dangers.

One thing I will note is that their minds are a little more cheeky, and this will benefit them as the story goes on. Such a trait perhaps ends up making their minds a little more clever than most. While both have to fight, in the long run I will say that Gleowan and Vaenn will often make it through their obstacles using their wit perhaps more than their skills in fighting.

The paths of these two characters in the story will be walked together. The two of them will not separate, or at least not willingly. I daresay that if they were apart, neither would be at all sure what to do, and in fact even I am not sure what they would do if separated.

That concludes my postings on the main characters in The Drifters’ Road book series. Worry not though, as I will be posting all kinds of other things onto this blog over time. I will of course give updates on what I am doing when necessary, and I often like to speak on storytelling philosophies and other related topics. And who knows what else I might talk about here. There will be plenty more posts coming though. Farewell for now.
